Rum Ocean - Ch 2
63Rum Ocean
The next part of Rum Ocean, Is it a person she finds or just another bag of luggage?
I stopped ten feet in front of me and caught my breath; my heart stopped beating all together as I reach the object and fell to my knees next to it. I looked it over carefully and touched it gently. He was still warm and did not feel stiff. I looked him over and did not see any bad injuries. I then looked to his chest and waited to see movement. It seemed like an entirety until I saw a subtle rise and then fall of his chest. I almost burst out laughing but held my tongue. The man’s left arm was covering most of his upper face. I tapped him on his arm slightly and asked if he was alright. No response. I then asked louder this time and got no response still. I decided then to move his left arm in order to look over his face for any abrasions or bad bruising. I picked up his arm and slowly moved, listening for any cracks or moans of pain. I watched his left arm as I slowly placed it at his side. I then directed my eyes to his face. My eyes just stared at his face. I must be dreaming or I still was suffering delusions from the crash.
The man that lay in front of me I’d seen many times. I’d seen him on TV and on the big screen and had performed in some of my favorite films. I then noticed a good size bump on his forehead. It did not look to threatening but could be the cause of no response. I needed to check his eyes to see if they were dilated. I announced to him what I was doing just in case he could hear me. I slowly with my thumb opened his left eyelid. His eyes were not dilated and looked normal to me. The white area of his eye was a little pinkish color but that could have been from anything; sand, salt water, or the bump on his forehead.
I looked up at the sky and noticed that the sun was going to set soon. I needed to get him away from the beach and to safety. I looked over to the jungle clearing and noticed a nice rock hangover from the greenish mountain.
I bent down and felt both of his arms and neck, making sure that none of them where broken or hurt. I then put my hands underneath both of his armpits and pulled backwards towards the overhang.
After ten minutes of pulling we reached the overhang. I then looked around to make sure there were no snakes or other unwanted things. I then got large fallen branches and started to set them up against the overhang making a make shift wall. I then made to soft bed pallets and laid him on one, making sure he was as commutable as possible.
I looked up again at the sky and judged I had around forty minutes left until it was completely dark. I wanted to start a fire so badly and decided to make that my next goal. I walked over to the suitcases that where on the beach and brought them up to the shelter.
There were three suitcases and one backpack. I opened the backpack first in hopes to find matches or a lighter; I found a lot of useful items I can use later on, but no source of fire. I went thru the first two suitcases and no luck there. On the last suitcase I lucked out. There was not only a pack of lighters but also a pack of candles. There was weird object in the suitcase to my surprise, including a whip! I chuckled at the objects in the suitcase and said a blessing for the crazy person who had own this suitcase.
I quickly gathered some rocks to make a fire circle and some dry branches and leaves. I dug out a eight inch deep hole and laid the wood and leaves down and surrounded the fire pit with the rocks. I then prayed that the lighters would still work. I let my thumb flick the lighter and was relieved to see the flame going strong. I lit the wood and leaves and they took to the flames. I had a nice fire going. It warmed my heart and soul to see it glowing. It brought me comfort and warmth, even thought it was pretty warm out.
Before it got completely dark I went and relieved myself for the night and also grabbed another large branch, some more branches for burning, and a few coconuts that I was going to try and open for supper. I dropped the supplies off at the hangover and then sat down. I went thru the luggage more carefully and found a pocket knife and also a large nail clipper. I would be able to use them both. In the “weird suitcase” I found a cork screw and tried it out on one of the coconuts. Did not work as well as I thought it would. My eyes then went to my one and only friend. He seemed to be sleeping soundly and his breathing was more regular then before. I still wondered if it truly was him or if he was just one of thoughts lucky people that looked like him. I could not stand it anymore and walked over to him. I remembered he had tattoos on his arms and decided to see if I could find any of them. I announced again that I was just checking him over for any cuts. It seemed weird to hear just my own voice. I pulled back his right sleeve and there it was the tattoos he had placed on himself during the first pirate movie he had been in. I sucked in my breath and thought to myself that I’m sure there are a ton of people out there that obtain the same tattoos. They were cool tattoos. I admitted to my own self if I was not afraid of needles I would too have one. There was only one way to make sure and that was to look for identification. If I was lucky his wallet would still be in his jeans pocket. I then said out loud explaining to him that I was just looking for identification. I then slid my hand into both his front pockets and found nothing. I slowly and gently rolled him over on his left side and slid my hand in this back pocket. My hand touched something soft and I slowly pulled it out revealing a worn brown leather wallet. I opened it and found his driver’s license and read his name.
I read it over and over again and could not believe it really was him. How could I have missed seeing him on the plane? I was on an island with Johnny Depp himself. I slipped his wallet back into his pocket and slowly rolled him over. I then went and sat on my bed pallet and started to work on getting a coconut opened. While I did so I thought about Johnny and what lay ahead of me. I now did have a higher chance of being rescued and that brought me some hope.
While I dug deeper into the eye of one of the coconuts Id been working on for at least fifteen minutes John moved and then let out a little moan, I went over to his bed pallet and spoke softly. “Are you ok?” “Can you hear me?” a soft moan came from him. I told him to hold on and I grabbed a stick out of the fire to use as a torch and grabbed a piece of clothing from one of the luggage’s and jogged to the beaches edge and dipped the cloth into the ocean. I then jogged back and threw the stick back in with the fire and sat next to Johnny’s pallet. I laid the wet cloth on his forehead. He moved a little at the cool touch and moaned something. I asked him what did he say but he had gone silent.
I stayed up most of the night going back to the beach to rewet the cloth and applying it to Johnny’s head. He had moved and mumbled a couple of more times during the night.
I had laid down on my own bed pallet around two or so. I fell asleep to the sound of the waves and to the crackling of the fire.
